Elon Musk on Saturday declared the formation of the “America Party,” a new alternative to the existing two-party system dominated by Democrats and Republicans. The statement came after President Donald Trump signed his flagship spending bill, the “Big Beautiful Bill,” into law.

Musk has vehemently opposed the legislation, despite supporting Trump in the 2024 election. The bill has also deepened tensions between the president and his former special government employee.

Musk said in June that legislation can’t be “both big and beautiful,” insisting that bills are either big and ugly or slim and beautiful, and he favored the latter.

As Trump’s bill cleared the Senate and headed to the final House vote, Musk warned on Monday that if Trump’s “insane” spending bill passed, he would immediately create a new political group called the “America Party.”

Musk, the biggest Republican donor, warned on Monday that if Trump’s “insane” spending bill passed, he would immediately create a new political group called the “America Party.”

“Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE,” Musk noted.

The bill cleared the House on Thursday and was signed by Trump on Friday. It includes tax cuts, higher discretionary spending, and safety-net reductions. Analysts estimate that the national debt will increase by $3.3 trillion over the next decade as a result of the bill’s enactment.

Also on Friday, Musk opened a poll on X, asking his 221 million followers whether he should form a new political party called the “America Party.” The survey ended with over 65% voting in favor of the idea, out of more than 1.2 million total votes.

Musk’s latest post showed that he was doubling down on the idea, positioning the “America Party” as a response to public demand and a challenge to the political status quo. Despite his bold declarations, there’s no evidence yet that Musk is taking any real steps to launch the party.

Following Musk’s latest statement, several meme tokens themed around the proposed “America Party” saw massive gains, according to data from GeckoTerminal.
