What’s the significance: The participation of Filipino web3 leaders and projects in Consensus Hong Kong 2025 stresses the Philippines’ growing presence in the global blockchain and crypto industry.

Key details:

  • Local web3 leaders and entities attended the recently held Consensus Hong Kong where influential companies, industry leaders, and experts discuss the future of these crypto and blockchain technologies.
  • Among the #CryptoPH Speakers:
    • Gabby Dizon, Co-founder, YGG
    • Renz Chong, CEO and Co-founder, Sovrun
    • Leah Callon-Butler, Emfarsis
  • The Filipino project Selyo also participated in the EasyA Hackathon.

What is Consensus Hong Kong: Consensus Hong Kong is a major blockchain and Web3 event organized by CoinDesk.

  • It was held from February 18-20, 2025, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC).
  • The event featured keynotes, deep dives, and interactive sessions with industry leaders.
  • It offered networking opportunities, deal-making sessions, and insights into the latest trends in digital assets and blockchain technology.

Ismael Jerusalem shared one of his key observations from Consensus HK: AI initiatives are shifting from insight-driven conversational agents to practical, utility-focused AI.

“Attending Consensus HK connects Filipino crypto entrepreneurs to Asia’s top blockchain networks, investors, and regulatory insights. [It could also help in] Accelerating funding, partnerships, and scalability. Additionally, as AI shifts toward utility-driven solutions (e.g., DeFi automation, smart contract optimization), [Filipinos can] learn to integrate cutting-edge AI tools with crypto projects for efficiency and innovation. [We can also] Gain inspiration from global case studies and position Philippine ventures at the intersection of AI’s practicality and crypto’s disruptive potential.“

Meanwhile, Paolo Dioquino, Growth at Pendle and Founder of DeFi Philippines, highlighted that Consensus serves as an intersection of traditional finance (TradFi) and crypto:

“Event-goers during Consensus HK were a variety of crypto natives and Web2 representatives from various TradFi companies. The Hong Kong government’s support for Consensus received positive feedback, attracting institutions to understand the financial capabilities of crypto through keynote sessions, networking events, and workshops. There is a slow shift from speculation to adoption in the industry and, in no time, will hopefully receive global adoption down the road.”
