Chainlink, Hyperlane, and Velodrome—three prominent blockchain infrastructure providers—have joined forces to launch Super USDT, a new interoperable version of the USDT stablecoin for the OP Superchain ecosystem.

Powered by Hyperlane for cross-chain transfers and secured by Chainlink CCIP, Super USDT maintains a 1:1 verifiable backing with native USDT on Celo. Mento Labs is supporting the initiative by providing 1:1 feeless swaps into USDT on Celo through the Mento Protocol.

The token aims to solve liquidity fragmentation across the Superchain ecosystem, offering a streamlined and cost-effective solution for developers and users.

Previously, different blockchains within the Superchain had to create their own versions of the bridged USDT, leading to fragmented liquidity and limited interoperability. Alternatively, they faced fees from third-party services to deploy a bridged token contract.

Super USDT eliminates these hurdles by providing a single, canonical USDT token that seamlessly operates across all Superchain networks.

With Chainlink CCIP and Hyperlane’s out-of-the-box deployments, Super USDT can rapidly expand to new Superchain networks, fostering a truly interconnected ecosystem. Unlike previous solutions that imposed exorbitant fees, Super USDT champions open access, eliminating predatory business practices and promoting a level playing field for all participants.

“USDT has been the lifeblood of DeFi for many years, and Chainlink is excited to advance it further by supporting Super USDT interoperability, making it possible to seamlessly bring USDT anywhere on any Optimism chain,” said Johann Eid, Chief Business Officer at Chainlink Labs

Jon Kol, co-founder of Hyperlane, called Super USDT “a seminal moment for interoperability in the Superchain,” noting that Hyperlane’s open framework allows Super USDT to expand easily to new chains.

As the designated canonical stablecoin for the Superchain, Super USDT will be integrated with Velodrome, the primary liquidity hub, thereby enhancing its utility and accessibility.

The token’s architecture also accommodates future upgrades, including seamless integration with native Superchain interoperability standards via ERC-7802, and the potential for direct minting and redemption capabilities in collaboration with Tether.

“As the primary trading and liquidity hub of the Superchain, Velodrome couldn’t be more excited to support the launch of Super USDT,” said Alexander, a contributor at Velodrome.

Super USDT is now available on eight chains including Base, Fraxtal, Lisk, Metal, Mode, Optimism, Soneium, and Unichain, with Celo serving as the hub chain.
