As cryptocurrency values surged in recent days, Google Trends data revealed a spike in searches from the Philippines for the misspelled term “Etherium.”
This analysis reviews Google Trends data over the past month for Ethereum and its common misspelling, Etherium, with both labeled as “search terms” to maintain consistent results.
Interest in Ethereum
Ethereum has seen a resurgence in both market value and retail interest following the positive market movements, with its token, $ETH, surging more than 42% over the past week, far outpacing the performance of other major tokens $BTC (+8.2%) and $SOL (+23.2%).
Accordingly, Bitcoin influencer Kyle Chassé pointed out on X the growing global search interest for the misspelled term “Etherium.” In another post, a user also noted the rise in misspelled search queries as an indicator of renewed retail interest.
However, not everyone agrees with this view; Coin Bureau co-founder Nic believes the recent rise in altcoin prices, including $ETH, is likely driven by institutional investors or whales, reflecting a broader shift in sentiment and growing anticipation of an altcoin season.
In addition, Nic suggests $ETH’s recent surge is likely due to a combination of factors, specifically the Pectra upgrade, a favorable macroeconomic environment encouraging risk-taking, and strong FOMO driven by whale activity, rumors, and a short squeeze.

“Etherium” Search in PH
According to Google Trends data from April 13 to May 13, 2025, Filipinos began searching for the misspelled term in late April.
This search surge aligned with the week leading up to the launch of the Pectra upgrade, a deployment on the major blockchain that aims to make Ethereum more user-friendly and secure by enhancing the network’s performance and scalability. It also introduces new features like EIP-7702.
The correct term “ethereum” saw multiple spikes in interest during the 30-day period. The highest peak occurred around mid-April, reaching the maximum interest level of 100, and another notable surge appeared in early May. In the Philippines, Ethereum is most searched in Cagayan Valley, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and Northern Mindanao.
In contrast, “etherium” showed minimal engagement, with only a few isolated and minor spikes. It is most searched in the regions of SOCCSKSARGEN (Region XII), Ilocos Region (Region I), Central Visayas (Region VII), Central Luzon (Region III), and Western Visayas (Region VI).
For the past month, the average interest for the correct spelling is 45, while the misspelled term is seven.
